BEV vs. PHEV

2024 Blue Chevy Equinox EV

Many automakers are producing more and more electric vehicles. Drivers in Arden can reduce their refueling and maintenance costs by investing in one of these types of new vehicles. You can choose between BEV vs. PHEV models when looking over which one fits better for your situation.

Compare PHEV vs. BEV models with our guide from Sunshine Chevrolet, LLC. We think you’ll love one of these types of cars, trucks, or SUVs for your drives in Asheville. Our team would be happy to talk to you about a BEV vs. PHEV when shopping for your next vehicle.

What Is a BEV?

A BEV is known as a “battery electric vehicle.” You’ll notice that this is the standard all-electric vehicle that we have on our lot, like a Chevy Blazer EV or Silverado EV. Basically, a BEV is a way of saying “electric vehicle” or “EV” when shopping for a car in Hendersonville.

A BEV uses several linked lithium-ion batteries as a power source. This large battery pack can turn one, two, or three motors to power the vehicle, depending on the drivetrain. A BEV with one motor typically turns one axle, either the front or back one. With two motors, you’ll get a BEV that has power to all four wheels. A three-motor BEV delivers even more power for towing or performance. Next in the PHEV vs. BEV comparison, we’ll look at a PHEV.

What Is a PHEV?

A PHEV is a “plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.” This type of vehicle runs on both electricity and gasoline. If your commute is less than 10 to 20 miles, you could drive back and forth to work without using a drop of gasoline. A PHEV battery gives you about 25 to 50 miles of range. So, you can save on gasoline for short trips around Fletcher before the gasoline engine kicks in when a PHEV is in your garage.

You’ll have to recharge the PHEV battery at home, much as you would with a BEV. A PHEV doesn’t take as long to recharge compared to a BEV. So, if you want to continue using gasoline like a traditional vehicle, consider a PHEV in the PHEV vs. BEV comparison.
