The Blue Ridge Parkway is known as “America’s Favorite Drive” filled with a variety of stops and natural beauty, and we couldn’t agree more at Sunshine Chevrolet, LLC. In fact, Arden and Asheville drivers already know that we’re conveniently located near a large section of the Blue Ridge Parkway, just south of Asheville. That’s why we’re here to help answer some common questions about this absolute gem of American history:
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway that began construction in 1935 with construction that continued well into the 1960s when it was considered complete. Some parts of the drive weren’t even opened until the 80s! That’s because this stretch of road was a major undertaking filled with a variety of hurdles, history, and major constructions with the goal of keeping natural landscapes and wildlife in mind.
The scenic route spans the southern and central Appalachians marked by Mileposts that guide your way through to a variety of stops along the route. Drivers can easily find Asheville exits between Mileposts 382 and 393 that will lead them either north or south along the Blue Ridge Parkway, giving you plenty of freedom to plan your next drive.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long, stretching through 29 total North Carolina and Virginia counties. Hendersonville drivers will be able to enjoy scenic expanses, local flora and fauna, and a large variety of stops and activities along this slow-paced and easy-going route.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Blue Ridge Parkway, it’s important to keep in mind that parts of the drive may be opened or closed depending on the time of year or in cases of natural weather events. Winter often leads to closures for the season. North Carolina’s routes have 25 constructed tunnels that run through natural rock alone to give you an idea of how ingrained the route is in the natural landscape.
The Blue Ridge Parkway connects the Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, starting in Rockfish Gap, VA and ending in Cherokee, NC. It’s easy to hop onto the route though with some planning.
We do recommend planning for your next outing to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Phone connections can be spotty, and many of the stops along the route aren’t on a GPS. The route’s official site has plenty of ways to plan your next trip, and Sunshine Chevrolet, LLC can even help you before your next outing or along the way with a service stop in Arden.
We hope you’re excited to start exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway! Drivers can help prepare for their next trip by stopping by Sunshine Chevrolet, LLC for their next oil change, tire rotation, or brake pad replacement. We can even help Weaverville drivers with vehicle inspections and service specials so that you’re well-prepared for your next drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway!
