Why Is Tire Rotation Important?

Mechanic with Tires

What does rotating your tires do for your drives around Asheville? To put it plainly, the purpose of routine tire rotations is to increase your tires’ lifespan. Tires wear out at different rates, so knowing how often to rotate tires can prevent any single tire from wearing out faster than others. Learn more about why tire rotations are important, then visit us at our Arden Service Center to get your tires rotated today!

Why Rotate Tires Differently Based on Drivetrain?

How often you need to rotate your tires and which tires you need to rotate are all influenced by the drivetrain of your Chevrolet vehicle. Take a look at the different ways your tire rotations must be conducted according to your individual drivetrain:

  • Rear-Wheel Drive Vehicle: Engine power is directed to the rear wheels, which will cause them to wear down faster.
  • Front-Wheel Drive Vehicle: Engine power is directed to the front wheels, so they will experience more wear over time.
  • All-Wheel Drive Vehicle (link to AWD blog or inventory page): Engine power is more evenly distributed, but there are many experts out there that maintain that the rear tires will still wear out faster.
  • Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive Systems: Going around curves means different levels of strain and friction on the inside tires vs. outside tires. Some advanced all-wheel-drive systems can even direct power to an individual wheel while driving around a curve for better cornering, which will further affect tire life.

Consequences of Not Rotating Tires

Why rotate tires at all? If you don’t regularly schedule tire rotation service, the tires will wear out at a faster rate than they should, not to mention the the following potentially dangerous consequences of skipping routine tire maintenance:

  • Flat tires and blowouts
  • More rapid deterioration of brake pads
  • Poor traction and skidding on the roads
